2011 Night of the Stars Ball

This annual 'night of nights' was again held at Wonderland Ballroom, where social dancers and competitors mix for a fabulous evening of dance entertainment including a spectacular floorshow by Australia's No.1 Latin American couple - Arkady Bakenov and Rosa Filippello. This is the only registered dancesport event in SA that also donates part proceeds to a charitable organisation - The Childhood Cancer Association. Every little bit helps and over the years we have donated almost $50,000 in total.

Doors opened at 7pm. A fabulous 3 course supper was included – antipasto platters adorned the tables on patron’s arrival, followed by main course platters, then cheese platters including chocolate dipped strawberries. The Ballroom looked amazing- Black linen table cloths and table seating for all with hundreds of gold, silver and black balloons and hundreds of gold and silver stars suspended over the ballroom floor. A great atmosphere from the moment you walked in – continued throughout the evening’s entertainment.

Social dancing commenced at 7.30 then Arkady & Rosa ignited the evening with their fabulous Cha Cha Cha show routine, much to the delight of an appreciative audience, giving all a taste of what was to come. General dancing brackets followed throughout the evening between competition and floorshow brackets. Adjudicators were rotated, meaning a different combination adjudicated each event.

Level 1&2 Latin – 1st Hall & Laura Roscioli, 2nd Daniel Schumann & Amy Hazell, 3rd Dieter Manifold & Sarah Schricker.
Masters Open Standard – 1st Peter & Susan Matthews, 2nd Wayne Grover & Wendy Talbot, 3rd Wayne Carson & Julie Warner.
Masters Open New Vogue – 1st Peter & Susan Matthews, 2nd Wayne Grover & Wendy Talbot, 3rd Jacques & Yvonne Klop.
Adult Open Latin – 1st Shane Wolf & Rachel Mifsud, 2nd Tony Romano & Cathy Caputo, 3rd Neale McLauchlan & Kris White.

Winners over the 2 styles in both the Level 1&2 and the Masters Open sections, received the perpetual trophies and season tickets to the South Pacific DanceSport Championships, courtesy of the FATD. Level 1&2 section winners: Sam Hall & Laura Roscioli. Masters section: Peter & Susan Matthews, who have won this trophy a record 12 times!

Arkady & Rosa continued their exciting show with Samba & Rumba and in their final bracket – Paso Doble & Jive. Crowd pleasers and an inspiration to all dancers – a wonderfully talented couple and beautiful people as well – thank you for coming and being this year’s magnificent guest artists.

Total proceeds of Raffle tickets sold during the evening and a portion of door ticket sales are all donated to the CCA. We sincerely thank ALL our prize donator’s. A special mention to Bag Heaven in Gawler Place – who donate a large amount of luggage prizes and have supported us for many, many years – Thank you! After the Raffle draw and Competition presentation, the evening closed just after midnight following a final social dance bracket – great to see everyone still dancing to the very end – a testament that they must have had a GREAT evening.

$3005 was donated to the Childhood Cancer Association from this year’s Ball.  Organisers, Rhett & Kym English, would like to give a BIG thank you to all our helpers setting up on the day, prize donators and all dancers who supported the event and helped make it another successful event.
