Ballroom dancing can be taken up as a leisure-time activity or as a sport - hence the title 'DanceSport'.
Just as you are never too young or old to learn to dance, you are nevertoo young or old to get involved in DanceSport. Categories range from Juveniles (Under 13s), Juniors (13-15yrs), Youth/Adult (Over 16s), Masters (Over 35yrs) with levels from Beginners to Professional.
It is a good, clean, healthy sporting activity. Most top DanceSport competitors are as fit as any sportsperson with the added dimension of artistry. DanceSport can be compared with Ice Dancing but DanceSport's extra appeal is that can be performed and enjoyed by a much wider age range.
At Dance Gallery, we are DanceSport specialists, training most of Adelaide's top competitors from their humble beginnings.
As DanceSport has now been given Olympic recognition by the International Olympic Committee, it is poised to become the next Olympic sport. Now is the time to get your children involved in DanceSport.
Who knows? You just may have a potential Australian or Olympic champion in your family!

On the
11-13th December the 63rd Australian Dancesport Championships
were held at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne.
28 Registered South Australian couples
attended this championship event and they were among
726 couples from all over Australia and overseas. Event
organisers were very pleased with the numbers, the highest
number of entries for some years. Considering the downturn
in the economy these large events have had good support.
During the weekend we saw participants
from all categories (Masters/Juniors/Juveniles/Youth&
Adult) competing. The standard of competition was very
high and improving every year. Competitors from Dance
Gallery, amongst others, made a representation at the
event and had success in the following events.
Kassie & Naumee Naicker
did very well placing 4th in Masters 1 Level 4 Latin,
making a move into New Vouge they achieved 4th In Master
1 Level one New Vogue and 6th in Level 2 New Vouge.
Ralph and Yvonne Chambers placing 4th
in the same event Level 2 New Vogue.
Recently Engaged Daemen Bray and Jaymi Humpreys
danced both Standard and Latin events and achieved an
outstanding result of 2nd in Adult Level 1 Latin.
In Masters 2 Jim and Irene Stevens
placed 1st in Level 3/4 Latin and 4th in Masters 2 Open.
Geoff and Brenda Clarke were outstanding
in their first Australian Championship received a 1st
place honours in Masters 2 level 2 Latin.
Also in their first Australian Championship, Jacques
& Yvonne Klop had fantastic results, winning
the Masters 2 Level 2 New Vogue as well a 5th placing
in Masters 2 Level 3 Standard.
In both the New Vouge & Standard styles Wendy
Talbot and Wayne Grover won 3rd places in Masters
2 Level 4 New Vogue and Masters 2 Level 3 Standard.
Wayne Carson and Julie Warner placed
4th in the same event of Masters 2 Level 4 New Vouge.
Other Couples that did not make finals
but danced extremely well through their rounds included:
Scott & Noni Sampson – Adult
level 1 and 2 Standard & New Vogue
Rodger Strevens & Shana Wright
– Youth level 1 and 2 all styles
Andrew Bergineti & Jade Adams –
Adult Open Latin
It was great to see so many couples
who put in the hard work and time and support to Dancesport
achieve success at the 63rd Australian Dancesport Championships.
I would like to congratulate them all
and wish them ongoing success in 2010.
